Welcome

Welcome to the Strawberry Thieves website.

We are a choir of about 20 people, and are based in South-east London, although we travel well. Strawberry Thieves was formed in 1996, the centenary of the death of William Morris, one of whose designs we are named after.

We sing at demos, Stop the War events, labour movement meetings, birthday parties and at the annual Street Music Festival and the biennial Raise Your Banners Festival of political song. Our repertoire draws on modern songs, as well as the wealth of political song which chronicles the history of struggle over the centuries, both in Britain and abroad.

We rehearse every Sunday evening and the choir is open to anyone interested in choral singing - you don't have to be able to read music.

What we sing

We like singing - but most of all we like singing songs with a meaning - songs for change.

If you look at the Music tab you can download the sheet music for many of our songs. We are also expanding the website to include midi files so that if you want to learn the melody from the sheet music you can listen to the midi file on your computer, or as an MP3 version on your MP3 player or phone.

Most of our songs are sung in four-part harmony so it can be confusing to be singing one tune while other people around you are singing something different - but the end result is usually very pleasing!

If you would like us to sing at your event, or join the choir, do get in touch with us via the Contact tab.
